Useful information shared by a member of our Vetsure Select Group. A client brought their dog for a rabies vaccine prior to travelling abroad and happened to mention, ‘it’s a shame I have to travel 3 hours to see the vet…[Read more]

Does anyone ask clients to sign payment T&Cs when registering with the practice or when you agree to do pay vet direct insurance claims? I have a practice who would appreciate some guidance with this. Many thanks Sarah
They are not exactly our standard t&c’s , but we get clients to sign a declaration that (amongst other things) they understand that they are liable for the outstanding fees if the ins co won’t pay them and that we are charging them £25 admin fee. As with most protocols I have doubts that staff get this done every time as clients are not alwa…[Read more]

News re: Norbrook Loxicom injectable.
A ring-fenced allocation has finally been secured for our Platinum practices. Your Norbrook TM should make contact to arrange a months stock to be delivered to you through your wholesaler (from the ring-fenced stock). If they do not make contact directly, please contact them, asking for your allocation to be…[Read more]

If you are a platinum member or any other practice using loxicom I strongly suggest that you order 2-3 months stock of the injectable version ASAP.
Henry Schein are now out of stock.
Tried to order on the same day as received this information and NVS had no stock

It’s been great to see the flow of sales of our new pet health plans since we launched last week! Even more encouragingly we are seeing early evidence that the promotion of health plans is also driving insurance sales – with some customers taking out both and benefiting from discounts to their insurance (alongside 5 weeks free!!!)
If you’d like t…[Read more]

Over the coming weeks we will be exploring differing business models for independent practices and how to support succession planning involving staff members – be they vets, nurses, receptionists or practice managers. Take a look at this article on employee ownership (similar to John Lewis model) as a radical starter:

Good morning all, I would be very grateful for any suggestions with regards to which debt collection agencies practices use? We have used CCL and P&J, looking for a new agency? Many thanks.
Morning, we’ve stopped using debt collection agencies.
We’ve always found them to be very ineffective and the people they chase generally are wise to all their tactics.
Likewise using the small claims court. We’ve won both our claims and never had a penny !!!
Hope this helps
Terry
Hi Michaela, thanks for your post. Interesting to read your reply too Terry, thanks ever so much. We’ve had really positive feedback about a debt collection service from another Vetsure member and I’m currently in the process of seeing if they can put a package together for our members. I’ll hopefully have something to share in the next month or so. Sarah
Thank you for your response Terry and also Sarah that sounds positive.
Hi Sarah, sorry to be coming to this conversation a bit late, but any update on your comment? always interested to hear about ways of collecting monies owed…. Sarah
Ashley is working on this, will keep you posted! Sarah
Thank you 🙂

Looking forward to a day with the steering committee today. We are meeting with various accountants and management consultants in the heart of London City to explore ‘Alternative Business Models’ including ways to help staff members buy into the practice, staff ownership models (like John Lewis) and alternative succession planning. Should be an…[Read more]
Amazing day yesterday. Group heard some very compelling arguments for NOT selling your practice right now. And some great structuring ideas for driving succession from within. Even heard about employee ownership models that have started to appear in the vet world (John Lewis type models). We will be gathering ideas to present back to you ASAP!!!!
That is so refreshing to hear,
I’m looking forward to hearing about it.
Thanks @terry-girling-2. We are aiming to put some presentations on the hub and having a meeting at LVS in the first instance. Talk soon.

Had a great meeting today with Matt Jones (head of vet partnerships at Guildford vet school). Love the model of training they have there – far better suited to training/ preparing gp vets of the future. They are keen to place vet students on intramural studies into vetsure practices. Practice leaders get trained on how to coach and receive…[Read more]

I’m wanting to start a conversation about the companies who have started selling software to vets to enable them to obtain/track consent from veterinary clients to make sure they are still happy to receive reminders etc. GDPR makes it clear that new clients have to proactively opt-in to such services moving forwards. But it is less clear about…[Read more]
Thanks @paul-walden and @dougalexander. GDPR interpretation varies considerably. I know plenty of practices are applying it to the letter whereas others are taking a more ‘wait and see’ approach. Can I ask anybody who is seeking consent from existing customers about their rationale?
I was told by a solicitor dealing in this area that you do not need explicit consent from any client to send them reminders or even marketing materials provided they are directly related to their animal. There has to be a way for clients to opt-out if they request it, but otherwise consent is implicit for any client, existing or new, if they…[Read more]
Thanks Peter. This one will go on and on and I am sure the ico will feel their way for a while. But I hope that common sense prevails as per the advice you have received.
Common sense? You’re optimistic! By the way, hope I’m forgiven for ‘popcorngate’ at LVS..

Quick question! Do you currently charge an admin fee to process insurance claims? If yes, how much and do you put the same fee on Vetsure claims? A couple of practices I have met with recently are considering introducing a fee and were interested to find out what other practices were doing. Many thanks in advance!
Thanks Tim.
We don’t for processing an insurance claim . We do if it’s a direct claim and charge £18 for this ( direct claim fee waived if vetsure) We only do direct claims for a handful of companies .
Thanks Simon
Thanks Amy.
That’s great, thanks Paul.
