What’s the feeling about price rises given clients are feeling the pinch?

what rates are people paying for out of hours service ? I’ve heard of anything from free to £300 per month
Hi Ian, some useful info from a couple of my practices today. one has a choice in their town of mi night vet (I think opened fairly recently) and vets now. mi night vet were offering to provide the OOH cover FOC to the practice. however, they have stayed with vets now as they feel there is better continuity of care and a well trained, consistent…[Read more]
I’ll confirm as soon as I have other responses, but I think £300-£400 is probably going to be the average if there are a couple of options in the town for you to choose from – higher rates if there is only one OOH option. hope that helps?
a further reply Ian, one of my practices said their OOH provider started with a quote at the £3/400 a month mark for a one year contract but dropped significantly when they signed up to a longer term. what I’m taking from feedback received is don’t be afraid to negotiate!
Hi guys yes there’s been some negotiation and we’ve found a provider. thanks for your help
I have the choice of two out of hours providers, neither of which charge me (clients are charged a lot though)
Hi Rory, do either of them charge you a fee per case?

straw poll:
anal glands, clean ears, clip nails:
included or in addition to the consultation fee
included
I think it depends on your consultation fee!
Hi Ian, if booked in for AG or nail clip they are charged for just that procedure. Howver if they are part of a consult for another issue then we would include as part of the consult fee. For example:
Consult = £52
Consult for another issue + AGs = £52
Appointment for just AGs = £18 (this would be booked with a nurse)

what sort of markup is standard practice for external lab stuff. just done a top allergy panel and it’s 350 plus vat cost
hi Ian. whilst it has been a while since I’ve been in practice, it seems from chatting to our Claims Manager @ Vetsure that the approach used by vets has not changed much on these sort of tests. In general, claims for such tests include the test at cost but then have a vets ‘test and interpretation fee’ to cover the cost of time and expertise…[Read more]
hi Ian – fellow mobile vet here down in Newcastle, just starting out…I wrestled with this too and have set ours at 50% which is still substantially cheaper than the big corporate I was working at previously, I’m hoping this will encourage more uptake as I’ve felt previously that some tests are prohibitively expensive and clients just don’t do…[Read more]
thanks for the feedback guys! and hello fellow mobile vet! Yes I tend to do the standard 50% markup on pharma but on this one it’s more like cost plus fees as the lab fee I quoted has gone up by 30% since I last used them!
Got an up to date price book now !

Hi guys, registering a new mobile practice. Im getting business insurance today, my official company name is Ian McKelvie BVMS MRCVS LTD, my trading name for the business is mckelvie mobile vets. Which should I put down for insurance purposes? Ian
I would write Ian McKelvie BVMS MRCVS LTD t/a mckelvie mobile vets. legal name is most important but doesn’t hurt to have both.

Good afternoon vetsure hub. Mobile practice business insurance recommendations please! Been quoted £480, already have VDS
Hi Ian, let me check with two of my mobile practices and I will come back to you.
Hi Keith, it was originally Shires who put me in touch with the very old fashioned sounding Ecclesiastical insurance. Im not sure what kind of house calls they think Im doing , pastoral care?
Thanks @gemmachughes
@keith-watson thanks Keith, it does seem expensive given that I already have VDS cover, so Id appreciate it as we are a new startup. Cheers Ian
