Had a great meeting today with Matt Jones (head of vet partnerships at Guildford vet school). Love the model of training they have there – far better suited to training/ preparing gp vets of the future. They are keen to place vet students on intramural studies into vetsure practices. Practice leaders get trained on how to coach and receive…[Read more]

Thought I’d share with you a video with you that we’ve had made in house outlining the benefits of Pet insurance. Please excuse the clown doing the talking !!!

Great achievement simon. Spoken from the heart, genuine and sincere. So much more powerful than a webpage of written content.
Fantastic video Simon, thanks for posting. Really impressed by all of the videos you’ve posted on your Facebook page about the services you provide your patients and clients, if I lived in Truro I’d definitely be registering Obi with you! Gives your clients such a good insight to how their pet is cared for when they’re with you.

I’m wanting to start a conversation about the companies who have started selling software to vets to enable them to obtain/track consent from veterinary clients to make sure they are still happy to receive reminders etc. GDPR makes it clear that new clients have to proactively opt-in to such services moving forwards. But it is less clear about…[Read more]
Thanks @paul-walden and @dougalexander. GDPR interpretation varies considerably. I know plenty of practices are applying it to the letter whereas others are taking a more ‘wait and see’ approach. Can I ask anybody who is seeking consent from existing customers about their rationale?
I was told by a solicitor dealing in this area that you do not need explicit consent from any client to send them reminders or even marketing materials provided they are directly related to their animal. There has to be a way for clients to opt-out if they request it, but otherwise consent is implicit for any client, existing or new, if they…[Read more]
Thanks Peter. This one will go on and on and I am sure the ico will feel their way for a while. But I hope that common sense prevails as per the advice you have received.
Common sense? You’re optimistic! By the way, hope I’m forgiven for ‘popcorngate’ at LVS..

I had a great time at SPVS/VMG congress this weekend. Was inspiring to talk to so many vets either successfully buying into practices or starting afresh. Including vets who had been previously promised partnerships but blown out when corporate offers emerge. Out of great setbacks come fresh opportunities!

Hi All, just a little bit of information re; e-claims, in case anyone is in doubt of how quickly we process. A claim was submitted by Wigmore Vets this morning @ 9.03am, signed by the PH @ 9.05am & paid by 9.15am. I mean I’m not one to brag…………….but that is fast!!
They jolly well are!

As xmas approaches, the season offers a great opportunity to thank your colleagues and team. Yet survey after survey reveal that vets are notoriously bad at doing this. Whether you are a boss or employee in practice, share your thoughts on the best ways to show appreciation and drive motivation. What has worked, what does not?
It was a fab idea!
I love that idea. Do you have a list of the prizes you used as some inspiration?

We currently operate our own OOH emergency service, but find it increasingly difficult to get vets and nurses that are willing to take on roles because they don’t want to do OOH. Our existing staff are also becoming frustrated with this as well. So we are looking at maybe introducing an OOH bonus for vets and nurses on duty and wanted to see if a…[Read more]

Another health plan question: do you think that schemes that operate on an annual basis and renew each year are better or worse than those that just keep collecting money on a rolling basis?
Thanks Doug. I can certainly see the advantage in a rolling scheme – you do have to remember to occasionally put your prices up though!
We do a rolling fee and that seems to work well. We felt that if we renewed each year it would be a prompt for cancellations and become another administration overhead.
Thanks @kevindamoryvets-co-uk

Quick health plan related question. Puppy comes in for first vaccination. The owner wants to subscribe to your puppy health plan at £13 per month. Do you: 1) sign them up and allow them to leave after having their 1st vaccine/ wormers etc and having paid nothing OR 2) take a first larger payment in the practice leaving the remaining monthly…[Read more]
Thanks Paul. I can see the logic there but don’t you struggle more to get people signed up at 6 months vs 3 months? Somebody once talked about clients having an Elizabethan collar of receptivity and that collar gets smaller as the puppy/kitten gets older! I always liked that analogy!
We ask them to pay the first month there and then and if they need first and second vacc we charge a one off uplift fee for giving two vaccinations rather than one. We originally had separate plans for puppy’s and kittens but it got too confusing to switch them after a year so we simplified them to one plan for all and this uplift fee.
I’ve heard of other practices using similar methodology and like the solution! Thanks Kevin
